Where is the Writing Center?

During weekday hours, you can find us in the Center for Academic Success on the second floor of Herrick Library in room 218. Our evening and weekend hours are on the first floor of Herrick (look for the sign or ask at the circulation desk).

Do I have to make an appointment?

Walk-ins are always welcome, but priority will be given to scheduled appointments.

Can I meet with the tutor on line?

The Writing Center offers only on-site tutoring for students on the Alfred University campus.  If you live in the Alfred area or on campus, please make an appointment to meet face to face with a tutor here at Herrick Library.   Students in our downstate program can access a tutor on-line.  Please make sure to read the instructions on how to upload your paper ahead of your appointment (you should be able to do this when you sign up).  If your computer has a camera, you should be able to converse with the tutor during your session. Otherwise, you can use the chat feature to write back and forth.
Questions?  Contact Vicky Cobb Westacott, Director at or 871-2245.  Or just stop by the Writing Center in the Center for Academic Success!
